Contact curric@indiana.edu The Federal Policymaking & Special Education short course is intended to provide graduate students with an introduction to becoming effective leaders in education through participation in the public policy making process. In this course, participants will be provided the opportunity to learn and practice the skills needed to be an effective advocate for K-12 students with disabilities and preservice teachers. Public policy impacts the field of education immensely, and graduate students must be prepared to become active participants in the process by utilizing their research and practical experience to advocate on behalf of students with disabilities, their families, and preservice teachers. Through meetings with federal level policymakers, self-advocates, and national organization members, the participants will be engaged in dialogue about key education issues and be provided with the opportunity to find their place within the policymaking process This class requires a Dist Ed Learning Ctr Fee/Educ.
