SPECIAL TOPIC: "On the Road: Pilgrimage and the Art of Travel
Writing" This second eight week course surveys travel
writing, focusing on the art and literature prompted by
journeys on foot, examining writing by medieval pilgrims,
romantic wanderers, and modern trekkers. We will explore the
hows and the whys of pilgrimage and travel writing by reading
about, discussing, and writing about the experiences of
pilgrims and other early walkers. Students will have the
option to also register for an additional one-credit course
(ENG X395) that will take place immediately after the
semester ends, during which they will travel to Europe to
walk (and write about) the final 112km of the Camino de
                 Santiago. Contact Professor Shannon Gayk
