                 M 100 : Exploration of a major issue in current Biomedical
                 Science, using analysis of the most recent scientific
                 literature, and interpretation of contemporary research data.
                 Readings and lectures are supplemented by whole-class and
                 small group discussion and by frequent written assignments.

                 TOPIC : Diseases Past and Present
                 This course explores the history of disease from antiquity to
                 the present through a multidisciplinary approach, with
                 special emphasis on medicine, human biology, archaeology,
                 biological anthropology, history, and the arts. The class
                 will incorporate information from from popular film,  news
                 articles, and scientific research in order to explore the
                 extent to which disease in the past informs current medical
                 progress and how health is perceived by the media and by the
                 general public.
