The ideas of Brian Sutton-Smith from his seminal work, The Ambiguities of Play, will serve as a starting point for in depth consideration of play across disciplines (for e.g., education, psychology, anthropology, sociology) and philosophical worldviews (e.g., developmental theories, constructivism, feminist theory, etc.). Play, playfulness, and their meanings and purposes will be considered as they occur in children and adults.
