Above class will present research conducted with
Native/indigenous communities in the Americas and in other
national contexts. We will examine curricular movements
generated by Native/indigenous communities, which include
studying the emergence of language immersion programs and
culture based educational programs. We will review the
theoretical underpinnings for these curricular approaches and
question the notion of self determination in Native nation
contexts. Finally, we will seek to chart the ways in which
research in indigenous contexts inform educational practices
                 across global and western contexts.
